This month I have stood on the shore. I am filled with a very resounding sense that I am leaving something behind. Entering mystery.
I know I am not alone in this sense. We have all stood on the threshold of change more than once in our lives. Standing in the doorway of becoming. Entering into a new world. Relying on latent skills.
I like the swan for this image because it is a stately creature that bridges the worlds of air, water and earth- the watery world of movement and depths, the solid ground where they nest, the lofty heavens of flight. The swan, a symbol of dreamtime, partnership, beauty, strength and grace. All lovely qualities to muse about as you stand on your personal threshold.
Swans remind me of my childhood on Cape Cod, hazy late-summer days turning into fall watching them sail across the ponds. They also are connected to my father, and so this month is a blessing to him.
Doubt lingers on thresholds, causing us to turn our heads back to what came before, unsure in our steps forward. Remember even the clumsy, ugly duckling had a regal birthright that was his all along- he was a swan all along. It was with space and time away from the heckling crowd that he stepped off of that shore, and after a good long look at himself, that he finally came to know his beauty.
Bravo to all of you. And all of the places you are showing your hearts.
